These terms describe how a player scores or creates plays, broken down by play type and court zone. Basketball only (NBA and WNBA).
Playtypes
DPT (Dominant Play Type) - the play type a player scores the highest % of his points from.
DPT2 (Secondary Dominant Play Type) - the second-most frequent scoring play type.
Note: Free Throws can't be DPT or DPT2, which is why Isolation is DPT2 here.
Shooting zones
DSZ (Dominant Shot Zone) - the court zone a player scores the highest % of his points from.
DSZ2 (Secondary Dominant Shot Zone) - the second-most frequent scoring zone.
Note: points-by-zone percentages exclude Free Throws.
Assist zones
DAZ (Dominant Assist Zone) - the court area where the player delivers most of his assists.
DAZ2 (Secondary Dominant Assist Zone) - the zone with his second-most assists.
Why it matters
Some players lean on specific play types (like pick and roll) or court zones (like the restricted area or corners). A defense that's strong or weak in those areas can change their output a lot.
